The storage units allow the young riders to bring their equipment to school so they can use them during lunch breaks.

Deputy head Steve Proctor said ‘scootering’ to school has become a popular alternative to cycling due to the fast moving traffic and busy roads around the school.

He said: “Children at Treleigh are actively encouraged to bring in their scooters where ramps and tracks are set up for them to use during their lunch breaks.”

The purchase of pods was made possible thanks to a capital grant from the Access to Education programme funded by the Local Sustainable Transport Fund.

Mr Proctor added: “We’re extremely grateful for receiving this grant as it allows the scooters to be stored securely.

“The children have really risen to the challenge of leaving the car at home and this will help us to keep this high profile within the school.”
